SMALL TOWNS
You know it's a small town when: When we moved to a farm just outside a small town, I
decided to check in with the police and fire departments in case we ever had an emergency.
I dialed the number listed for the police department and a woman answered.
"Courthouse," she said. "May I have the police department?" I
asked. "He isn't here now," she replied.
Reader's Digest, Contributed by N. Janelle White.
An ad for a general store in Loretta, Wis., gave its location as: "Across from the
phone booth."
